Congratulations on the purchase of your motorized retractable screens and opening up your living space!
We hope you enjoy your new retractable screens and would like to share with you some pointers, tips, and tricks to have the most success with them:
Operation of retractable screens can be less than desired during colder temperatures. Fabrics expand and contract with colder temperature changes. It is common for a screen to contract in colder months and this will affect how well the screens travel up and down. If you desire to use them, the travel may be limited and they may not travel well. Operate them individually, if programming allows, then guide them down with your hands by pushing slightly on the slide bar as they come down. IF you’re pushing hard, there is an issue. Failure to do so may result in the screen coming out of the track which will require a service call to repair. NOTE: Your house takes a lot longer to warm up than you think. If your heat is still on, your house is cold. If your house is cold, your screens are cold. Often in our seasons, the temps fluctuate into freezing temps, it will warm up to 60s during the day and back to the 30s at night. Your screens are still cold during periods like this.
It is normal for the screen mesh and vinyl to “sail” under windy conditions. If the screens are lowered during windy conditions, they tend to hang up and can pull themselves off the track when traveling down.TIP: During windy conditions guide the bottom weight bar with your hand down to the ground. Screens that are smaller in width will be more temperamental in wind.Retractable Screen Systems should be retracted in excessive wind conditions (IE Nor’easters, Tropical Storms, Blizzards, Gail Warnings ETC). Excessive wind can damage the fabric and or the track system. Different fabrics require more caution. Shade fabrics and vinyl require to be raised in lower wind than insect fabrics as they function more like sails. Damage to the fabric or tracks isNOTcovered under warranty and will incur a fee to replace. If you’re not sure, protect your investment and raise them.
If snow or ice is present in the area of the tracks or where the screen lands DO NOT lower the screens.
Motorized screens should always be observed while they are in operation. If any objects are left under a motorized unit this may prevent the unit from lowering properly. Should this happen, gently lift the weight bar up and remove the object.
Ensure tracks are free of dirt and debris which may cause the screen to perform poorly. TIP: Be sure to use only 100% silicone. Oil-based products like WD-40 will gunk up the tracks and attract dirt and debris.
Screen mesh, housing, tracks, and weight bars must be cleaned with a mild detergent like dish soap and water. Do NOT use harsh chemicals and avoid pressure washing. Before retracting back into the housing, allow the screen and tracks to dry properly.
Power failures can affect a motorized unit’s operation. Ensure that the system is still getting power by checking the circuit breakers and ground faults for resetting. TIP: Many times a porch’s GFI circuit is reset either in the garage or a bathroom in the home.
