Frequently Asked Questions
Measurement & Installation
It will entirely depend on the product you’re having installed.
For each single door screen, it takes between 30-60 minutes on average. For each double door screen, it takes between 60-120 minutes on average.
For each window screen, it takes between 30-60 minutes on average.
For each single XL screen, it takes between 60-90 minutes on average per screen. For each double XL screen, it takes between 120-180 minutes on average.
For outdoor living solution products, including motorized screens, vinyl, dual roller systems, hurricane shutters, and awnings, they can take anywhere from 2 hours on site to an entire two days (16 hours, 8 hours each day on site). Most projects we are able to finish in a single day’s work, but there are exceptions. There are a lot of variables at play for these types of installations. It will entirely depend on how installation is for your space, how many screens/shutters/or awnings you’re having installed, the type of mesh for screens/vinyl, type of housings for screens/vinyl, weather, etc. Please discuss with your sales representative for an accurate length of installation for your specific installation.
It depends! If you have questions, feel free to send us photos of your door, window, or outdoor living space that you’re looking to screen in or add shutters/an awning to, as well as what your goals for the space are and what products you are interested in. Our trained office staff will be able to assist you and tell you if we are able to install our products for your home.
Contact Us Now!It is preferred that you be home at the time of the installation for all Phantom Screen products. This allows our installers to review the warranty, proper usage, and service once installation is complete to avoid unnecessary service calls/fees at a later date.
If you absolutely cannot be home, we can install on some inswing and sliding doors only with our Legacy and Mesh Lock door screens, but there are exceptions where we will need the door open.
For XL screens, we sometimes can install without anyone being on site, but please discuss with your sales representative as it is determined per job.
For Executive motorized screens, vinyl, dual roller systems, QMI hurricane shutters, and SunPro awnings, as long as we have access to the space where we are installing these, we can do the installation without anyone home as these are most frequently installed on the exterior of the house. Due to the nature of these products, we highly prefer someone to be on site during the installation so we can review proper usage and care when we are done. If no one can be on site for installation, please arrange with one of our office staff to have someone come out following installation to meet with the homeowner (and builder if applicable) to go over these items. There are some exceptions where we will need someone on site for installation, please discuss with your sales representative as it is determined per job.
Whenever possible, it is best to schedule for a time when you can meet our factory trained installers on site to ensure a smooth installation and a proper understanding of how to use the product to avoid unnecessary service calls/fees at a later date.
Yes - for MeshLock door screens, Serene window screens, XL manual screens, Executive motorized screens and vinyl, Hurricane Shutters, and Awnings.
Please note that prior to setting up any site visits, we will request approximate measurements from you, or plans if it is a new build. This way we can get you ballpark pricing for what you’re looking for first to ensure it fits in your budget. From there, we would set up your initial site visit.
The first site visit for all of these products is free. Any additional site visits following the first one, we require a signed contract/quote and a 50% deposit to ensure you are moving forward with the job. Otherwise, there is a $40 fee per additional site visit.
For Legacy Door Screens ONLY, we do not come out to take measurements ahead of time. Our Legacy door screens are custom built on site the day of the installation, which is why we are able to schedule installation based on your approximate measurements provided to us. Your installer will take exact measurements the day of the installation and then cut the screen down to fit your door exactly. The only exception is if you have a door that is over 96”h or you require a color that is not one of our 10 standard colors. Then we would set up a site visit for a color match and measure to get you a formal quote.
After we come out to take measurements and meet with you on site, our office staff or sales representative will send you a formal quote for approval. Once we receive the approved quote, a 50% deposit, and our final measurements, we are able to place the order with the manufacturer. From when we place the order, it’s on average a 4-7 week lead time. As soon as we receive it from the manufacturer, we will reach out to schedule your installation.
For Executive motorized screens and vinyl ONLY we also require a selections form signed and returned to us prior to ordering. This reviews mesh type and color, aluminum color, how the screens/vinyl are being mounted, and remote choices. Upon receipt of your signed quote and deposit, this form will be emailed to you by our office personnel or sales representative.
Color availability varies by product. Please check the individual product page to see what standard colors are available for the product you are interested in.
For all Phantom Screen products, we also offer wood grain colors, premium and luxury colors, and custom color matching. These are all upcharges to the standard product cost and will be included on the quote for your product.
For controlling the Executive motorized screens and vinyl or dual roller system, the SunPro awnings, and the QMI shutters, you have the option of a handheld remote, an in-wall remote, controlling the screens/vinyl through an app on your phone using a bridge, or by integration into your existing home automation system using a bridge.
In terms of manual operation, we do not offer non-motorized awnings or shutters. For the Executive motorized screens and vinyl or dual roller system, there is a manual hand crank version available. They are not a huge cost savings, which is why we strongly recommend the motorized route.
The care and maintenance required varies slightly per product. Please visit our Care & Maintenance page for the correct information for your screens or outdoor living product.
Yes, we do! We support our troops and want to show our appreciation here at Garden State Retractables. Simply mention that you are a Veteran or active duty to your sales representative, we will verify via email or text with a photo prior to applying the discount to your quote.
