Guidelines for Measuring
Follow the steps below to successfully measure your openings for getting a quote
Measuring for Door Screens, XL Screens, and Window Screens
- Using your tape measure, measure the width of the door or window opening.
- Using your tape measure, measure the height of the door or window opening.
- You’re all set! Call us today with your approximate measurements to get a quote.
Measuring for Motorized Screens, Vinyl, and Hurricane Shutters
- Using your tape measure, measure the full width between columns of each opening. Ex. If your porch has 2 sides and 1 opening across the back, you would get 3 sets of measurements.
- Using your tape measure, measure the height from the floor to roof.
- Time to contact us! Reach out to speak further about your project and get ball park pricing and set up a site visit.
Measuring for Awnings
- Using your tape measure, measure the full width of the location where you intend to have the awning installed
- Using your tape measure, measure out from the wall where the awning will be installed to get projection. Note that 12’ is our maximum projection for our motorized awnings.
- Get a quote! Contact us with your width and projection measurements to get pricing and set up a site visit.
Next Steps After Measuring
- Contact Garden State Retractables Reach out to us with your approximate measurements to get ballpark pricing. We will also ask for photos at this time of the space. Once we review, we can set up a site visit.
- Site Visit A sales representative will meet with you at your job site to review the project, take exact measurements, review options and any work that needs to be performed while on site that day. This is the best time to ask questions!
- Ordering Process Following your initial site visit, we will email you a formal quote. Upon approval, we require a signed quote and a 50% deposit to place the order with the manufacturer.
- Professional Installation Once we place the order with the manufacturer, it takes approximately 4-6 weeks for us to receive the materials. Once we receive the materials for your order, we will reach out to schedule the installation with you.
Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t trust my measurements - what if they aren’t exact?
We only require approximate measurements, we don’t expect yours to be down to the 1/16” of an inch for us! You providing us with measurements allows us to give you ballpark pricing over the phone prior to coming out to site.
For Legacy door screen installations, which are done on site in one day, we will take our exact measurements and cut down the materials for your door screen right on site to fit your door.
For Mesh Lock door screens, and all other products, our exact measurements will be taken on site prior to placing your order with the manufacturer. We will never order off approximate or supplied measurements.
I don’t want to take measurements, can’t you just come out?
Unfortunately, no. Our policy requires that we receive approximate measurements before ever scheduling to come out to a jobsite, no matter what product.
This allows us to give you ballpark pricing prior to scheduling any appointments or site visits. This way, if our products are not what you are looking for or are not in the budget, your time and our time is not wasted.
For Legacy door screen installations, this ensures that we bring out the correct materials to be able to install your door when we arrive on site that day. If we are given incorrect or no measurements, it could result in having to reschedule your installation and a trip charge.

Besides measurements, what other information should I have ready when I reach out for a quote?
Great question! We would just ask you have your measurements ready, a few photos of the space you would be able to send to us to review, and information about your project like what your goal for the space is, and any questions you have!
If you don’t have all the information we ask for when you first reach out, don’t worry. We will work with you to figure out which of our products would work best for your space and we’ll let you know any further information we need once you reach out!
